Rory Cochrane
c/o CSI: Miami
CBS Television City
7800 Beverly Blvd. Room #18
Los Angeles, CA 90036
USA

Born: Feb.28 1972 Syracuse New York

Siblings: Brother Brendan, Sister Siobhan

Early years, first roles and Cult-Movies:

He spent most of his Childhood in Grantchester, England. He later on returned to the US to be trained in the drama department of NYC's LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts. His had his first role in a docudrama segment used on "Saturday Night with Connie Chung". He also made a brief appearance in an Episode of "H.E.L.P" in 1990.

The first film feat. Rory (although with a very short appearance) was "A Kiss before Dying" as Chico alongside Sean Young, Matt Dillon and Max von Sydow. In 1992 he starred next to Jeff Goldman in Paul Mones drama "Fathers and Sons". It was his first big part in a movie.

The part of Stoner Slater in the 1993 Cult-Movie "Dazed and Confused" followed. People still praising him for his performance alongside such Names as: Jason London, Joey Lauren Adams, Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Parker Posey and many more. It is rumored he dated Joey Lauren Adams during the time of filming, but not confirmed. It is also stated that he made up some of his lines. A female co-star described him as a loud, bawling Irish drinker, but I do not know who said it though.

Next on was "Love and a 45" in which Rory showed his dark side. With wild tattoos around his head he gave a "wild, hilarious and convincing" portrait of "varying states of paranoia, rage, treachery, delirium and insanity" so stated by critics from Variety. In a lot of reviews about this Movies, critics or so-called critics praise his performance. The movie run on different Festivals and even though some might say it's a "Natural born killers" rip-off, most people seemed to enjoy the movie. In some countries like Germany the movie is on the index-list. Interesting fact. is that Rory starred alongside Renee Zellweger, who he dated for about 2 years. Also co-starring in this flick is Wiley Wiggins, who had been also in "Dazed and Confused".

After this there came "Empire records" and with it Rory's most popular Character Lucas, who lost 9000 Dollars in Atlantic City in order to save the record store he works in, from turning into a big record store chain. Even though the movie didn't made a big fuzz at the box office when it came out, it is now considered a Cult-Movie amongst Teenager. It is rumored that he dated Liv Tyler, who also starred in Empire Records.

What followed is (well, at least that's what I think) a masterpiece! In George Hickenlooper's "The Low life" Rory plays John an Ivy League graduate who comes to Los Angeles to be a writer. Trying to keep his distance to all the people around him, he manages to get him self deeper in depression. Not many people know this movies, but if you are a fan of Rory I strongly suggest "RENT IT NOW"!

After that Rory played "Dante" in the ABC television mini Series "The last don". Based on the Novel by Author Mario Puzo. Here again he can show his dark side. The Mini Series was nominated for several Emmy Awards in 1997.

Shortly after that Rory starred in the Movie "Dogtown" alongside Jon Favreau and Jonathan Livingston (who was also starring next to Rory in "the low life"). Again George Hickenlooper wrote and directed the flick. Box Office online stated: Anchored by excellent performances from Karen Black, Rory Cochrane, Jon Favreau and Mary Stuart Masterson, "Dogtown" screams for a theatrical release that it never received.

He had a small part in "the Adventures of Sebastian Cole" as Chinatown and in 1998 he starred in the HBO Movie "Black and white" next to Gina Gershon. Ryan Cracknell put in his review at Apolloguide.com "That said, there is some good mixed in with the bad. The performances put in by Rory Cochrane and Gina Gershon as O’Brien and Hugs, respectively, are quite good, especially considering the material they had to work with. There is a chemistry between them that keeps Black and White entertaining. Early in the movie, just after the two head out on their first shift, Hugs demands they both strip naked to take away the curiosity – that’s a great scene."

Rory then starred next to Robert DeNiro and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Joel Schumacher's "Flawless". Although his part is not very big, I thought it was hilarious and he certainly got the best lines in it.

In 2000 he starred in the Movie "Sunset Strip" next to Anna Friel, Nick Stahl and Adam Goldberg. In which plays the part of Felix, a neurotic yet brilliant Song Writer who is pretty messed up most of the time.

In "Prime Gig" Rory appeared next to Ed Harris and Vince Vaughn. Scott Weinberg stated at Apolloguide: "Rory Cochrane (Dazed and Confused) is excellent in a small role as Penny’s sad-sack drug-addicted best buddy." Even though I had some difficulties with the Story itself, Rory really does an excellent Job in that Movie.

Next on Rory starred in the Movie "Southlander". Which I have never seen, and may never seen (and it's driving me insane LOl). But at least you can download the Trailer at www.southlander.net .

In 2002 Rory was seen on the big, big screen in "Hart's War" starring Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell. His part may be small, but still recognizable.

Current and upcoming:

It is stated that he is gonna star alongside Susan Sarandon and Robin Tunney in the upcoming Movie "A Whale in Montana" although I couldn't find any details about that movie so far.

Currently Rory is in the Cast of CBS Hit Show "CSI Miami" and he does a pretty fine job as Tim Speedle. There was some Gossip on www.woman.com  about Rory partying to much (how can that even be possible?). But just follow the link and read for yourself. I won't put anything on this website about it. The source just seemed to weird.

About his Character Rory says in an Interview with Zap2it: "Originally, the character was supposed to be a quarterback or something for Miami, so obviously I'm not fitting that profile," he says, fiddling with the unbuttoned cuffs on his slightly oversized dress shirt. His wardrobe is an attempt to move Speedle out of T-shirts, but it only succeeds in making the slight Cochrane look like a kid in his dad's clothes. "I guess it seems like some people on the show have history," he continues, "but I don't know. He's supposed to be a trace expert, but it seems like everybody knows all the different dimensions of what we do. We all sort of share it. It seems like nobody's one thing or the other, except Alexx. She's the coroner, and you don't want to get into that." Click on the Link to view full article on CSI Miami.

On different Fanpages it is said that Rory likes to travel, play chess and ad-libs some of his lines. On Eonline, Matt Damon was asked about the friendship between Ben Affleck, himself and a bunch of other fine young Actors, this is what he said:  "EOnline: "You guys have been friends with a pack of rising young actors: Matthew McConaughey, Joaquin Phoenix, Chris O'Donnell, Rory Cochrane and Cole Hauser. What brought you all together?
Matt Damon: Well, we haven't all hung out together in a long time. But it's a group of people who are really fine young actors and have the same goal: to be the best actors they can be. Plus, they're just a fun bunch of guys." Seems Rory is hanging out with an interesting crowd.

Recently he also appears  the new 50 Cent Video "Many Men", along his Co-Star from CSI Miami Adam Rodrigez.

Rory has left CSI Miami. He has been casted for the Movie 'A scanner Darkly' which is due release September 2005.
